In a small Detroit loft, Hamilton Carhartt took two sewing machines and a dedication to quality and founded a Great American Dynasty. Working directly with railroad workers to truly meet their needs, under the motto “Honest value for an honest dollar,” the original Carhartt Bib overall was created and quickly became the new standard for quality workwear.

Over the next three generations Carhartt expanded and innovated in the US and beyond, today employing more than 2,700 American workers, 970 of whom are UFCW union members, owning and operating manufacturing and finishing facilities in Mexico, and maintaining a European headquarters located in Amsterdam. In total, employing more than 5,300 hardworking associates worldwide.
